Passengers traveling in a Mombasa-bound bus from Western Kenya cheated death when the bus caught fire as they were heading to the Coast.
The accident occurred at Bendera shopping center along Kapsabet-Chavakali road.
Witnesses told a local media house that the accident involved three vehicles, one salon car that hit other two vehicles, including the bus, when the driver was trying to evade the potholes on the road.
The Modern Coast bus caught fire as the driver tried to drive away from the road to avoid hitting other approaching vehicles.
“The bus was not involved in the accident, but as it tried to get out of the road, one of the tires caught fire,” said Kevin Kidake, a resident of Bendera.
Witnesses pointed out that the cause of the fire might have been the emergency breaks applied by the driver, who also hit several potholes before making a stop.
