Former President Mwai Kibaki’s final journey


    Retired President Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki, the third President of the Republic of Kenya died on Friday, April 22. H.E Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces on Mon, 25 April 2022 led the country in a public viewing of the body of the late retired President Mwai Kibaki at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.

    Kenyans from all walks of life have been allowed to view the body of former President Mwai Kibaki, which has been lying in-state at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi. The public have a chance to view the body and pay their last respects between 9 am and 5 pm.

    The Kenya Defence Forces from Monday to Wednesday will continue using one of its tactical gun carriers to carry the casket from Lee Funeral Home to Parliament Buildings in a spectacular military procession that was a replica of former President Moi’s funeral procession two years ago.

    We have witnessed the soldiers’ efficiency and punctuality in how the body is transported from and to parliament on time

    Final rites for President Kibaki will be held on Saturday, April 30, with a memorial service at Othaya Stadium and he will be buried at his Othaya Home, next to his late wife Mama Lucy Kibaki. Former President Mwai Kibaki will also be accorded a 19-gun salute.
