The US Embassy in Nairobi has issued a terror alert in Kenya, advising Americans to reassess their personal security measures.

The Embassy stated on its official website on Friday, June 13, 2023, that there are high risks of terrorism targeting locations frequented by foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya.

“Locations frequented by U.S. citizens and other foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya continue to be attractive targets to terrorists planning to conduct potentially imminent attacks,” the U.S. Embassy warned.

The US Embassy advised citizens to be cautious in areas frequented by visitors or foreigners, and to examine their personal security preparations.

As a result, American citizens have been advised to be cautious of their surroundings, particularly in hotels, embassies, restaurants, malls and marketplaces, schools, police stations, places of worship, and other areas frequented by foreigners and tourists.

The embassy has provided phone numbers for citizens to contact them if they require assistance.

This comes only days after a Kenya Airways flight bound for London was intercepted by Royal Air Force fighters and forced to land at Stansted Airport due to a security concern.
