Raila Odinga, the Azimio leader, may have altered Kenya’s political environment.
This comes after he suggested backing Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka for President in 2027.
Speaking in Migori county, the former Prime Minister revealed that he or Kalonzo will carry the coalition’s torch to challenge President William Ruto in what is expected to be a hotly contested election.
Raila also used the chance to defend Kalonzo from Ruto’s jabs, in which the Head of State asserted that if Kalonzo is supported as the Coalition’s flagbearer, he will be easily re-elected.
Raila also refuted Ruto’s claims that the President had backed him more than Kalonzo and backed his co-principal.
“This man we have stood with him together since the KANU regime, we went ahead together and called NDP, we went to NARC and even to ODM and we have stood with him twice fighting,” Raila said in an interview.
Raila also praised the Wiper party leader for keeping committed to him and the political formation despite the party’s failure to win the president.
He stated that despite missing out on the running mate post, Kalonzo stayed loyal and supported his State House bid.
“The man has courage, he is someone to believe in, he is a Christian, a humble guy, and loving, last time I heard Ruto saying that Raila won’t vie so I will have time for Kalonzo,” Raila was quoted as saying.
At the same time, the ODM leader accused Ruto of wanting to sever ties with Kalonzo through his recent remarks.
According to Odinga, Kalonzo supported him twice in his bid for the presidency, and he promised to return the favor in the future.
