Moses Kuria, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, has struck again.
This comes after he proposed charging for all services provided at Huduma Centres across the country.
Services at Huduma Centers were provided at no cost.
Kuria indicated the fee would be used to run the centers and reduce the financial load on the Treasury during the takeover of the State Department of Public Service.
“You have been receiving these services for free; there is no longer a free lunch.” You must pay for it; we will implement a fee for service for both government and private services to support our e-commerce because the Huduma Centre will serve as the backbone for e-commerce,” he said.
Josiah Murigu, Kuria’s Communication Officer, emphasized that the plan was still in its early stages.
He went on to say that it will go through public consultation and be presented to Parliament before being adopted.
“We have not settled on the amount yet, this is one of the many changes we want to introduce as a way of improving this ministry,” he said.
Kuria also stated that he will collaborate with the government to expand the number of services available to Kenyans through partnerships with the private sector.
He went on to say that President William Ruto has charged his government with working toward sustainability and reducing reliance on the exchequer.
Huduma Centres provide services such as National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) registration, national ID application, student loan application (HELB), driver’s license and renewal, and single business licence.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta established Huduma Centres as part of Vision 2030.
