A senior Meru county lawmaker has asked President William Ruto to exercise caution in light of recent events in the Mount Kenya region.
The vote-rich region strongly supported Ruto in the past election, but fortunes are turning thanks to the efforts of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
According to Tigania West lawmaker Brian Mutiga, Uhuru is secretly cementing his authority on the mountain with the help of former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga.
Maina Njenga has held multiple rallies in the Mt Kenya region, and according to Mutiga, the rallies have the sanction of the former President, who is the de facto political kingpin of the Mt Kenya region.
“President Uhuru MAN is MAINA NJENGA.” He’s a TRIBAL LEADER with a large following and an excellent choice for mobilization. When you see him about and active, know that he has Uhuru’s blessings and that something is in the works,” Mutiga posted on his X platform on Monday.
Because the Son of Jomo is a no-nonsense mobilizer, Uhuru’s involvement into Mt Kenya politics would hamper Ruto’s re-election in 2027 and will make Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua look like a clown in the Mt Kenya region.
