Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio One Kenya Alliance, has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto over the ongoing evictions at the East Africa Portland Cement Company (EAPCC).

More than 1000 families were displaced as government bulldozers demolished dwellings that it said were erected on EAPCC land.

Raila described the demolitions as a breach of human rights and unholy on Tuesday.

“What is happening here is ungodly. Ruto vowed to eradicate illegal demolitions in the country during his campaign in July 2022, and that is exactly what he is doing,” Raila remarked.

He went on to say that the most affected are the lowest of the poor and the emerging middle class, who have seen their life savings reduced to ashes.

“Children studying in some of the schools here have seen their school close despite upcoming national exams.” “The eviction occurred just as the rains began, leaving us without alternative housing or essential needs,” he noted.

Raila further claimed that the evictions were accompanied by disproportionate use of force by police and municipal officials with the intent of causing human misery and damage.

“There have been reports of injuries, and theft of property belonging to the people who are suffering from loss.”

He encouraged the administration to devise a strategy for relocating the impacted people.
