Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is working into the wee hours of the morning to ensure that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) elections in December are free and verifiable.
President William Ruto, the UDA party head, declared last month that the ruling party will hold nationwide elections in order to comply with the criteria of the Political Parties Act.
Gachagua meets with Mount Kenya leaders frequently in preparation for the elections, which political observers say will make or break the ruling party.
Already, there is a schism within the party, with Gachagua’s Mt Kenya allies planning to overthrow UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala.
According to the Mt Kenya team, Malala has proven to be autocratic and noisy, and he will be replaced by Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro.
“Yes, we want Malala to go home and be replaced by Ndindi Nyoro,” stated a Kiambu County UDA MP.
