Despite being the Chief Guest, Angolan President Joao Laurenco refused to attend this year’s Mashujaa Day Celebrations at Kericho Green Stadium on Friday.
Laurenco landed in Kenya on Thursday, an embarrassment to President William Ruto’s government, but he missed the ceremony, which was attended by thousands of Kenyans.
Though no explanation was provided for President Laurenco’s absence, Kileleshwa Ward MCA, Robert Alai, has shed some insight on why Angola’s strongman was noticeably absent from the highly publicized ceremony.
Alai stated on social media that President Laurenco refused to attend this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations after receiving intelligence reports that four people were killed in a stampede at Kericho Green Stadium.
