Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma and his Mumias East counterpart, Peter Salasya, have beaten out more experienced lawmakers to become among the best-performing MPs in the country.
Kaluma was named third among Kenya’s 50 best-performing members of Parliament in a list released on Sunday by Infotrak, along with four other MPs.
Robert Mbui of Kathiani, Christopher Aseka of Khwisero, Gideon Mutemi of Mwingi Central, and John Paul Mwirigi of Igembe South are among the four.
Salasya, on the other hand, was ranked 11th, alongside Kasipul’s Charles Ong’ondo and Changamwe’s Omar Mwinyi.
Overall, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was voted the best-performing lawmaker countrywide, followed by Peter Irungu of Kangema.
The poll, which was conducted between July and September of this year, drew almost 58,000 respondents, the vast majority of whom were selected from Nairobi.
The result comes only days after Infotrak named Busia Senator and longstanding human rights campaigner Okiya Omtatah the country’s greatest performer, with a 59 percent rating.
Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot tied for second place with 56% each.
Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo and Nyandarua Senator John Methu rounded out the top five with 52% and 51%, respectively.
However, the study only included elected leaders, not nominated legislators.
