A group of influential figures close to Raila Odinga, the head of the opposition, have supported Kalonzo Musyoka, the winner, for president in 2027.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino is one of those who supports the former vice president flying the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition flag.
Senator Edwin Sifuna of Nairobi and the Secretary General of the ODM are among the others who have backed Kalonzo to challenge President William Ruto.
Sifuna said in a statement that they follow Raila’s lead, having made a declaration about the coalition’s flagbearer.
“The ODM’s stance is conveyed by Raila Odinga, the party leader, who has stated that Kalonzo is the ideal candidate who is not only reliable but also superior to the current group of national leaders,” Sifuna stated following the church ceremony.
Senators Enoch Wambua of Kitui, Dan Maanzo of Makueni and Machakos, and Agnes Kavindu all supported Kalonzo’s bid to take on Ruto.
Amos Mwago (Starehe), Mark Mwenje (Embakasi West), and MP Julius Mawathe (Embakasi South) were the others.
The former prime minister declared last month that Azimio may support Kalonzo Musyoka in his bid to depose President William Ruto.
“Kalonzo twice supported me, and our triumph was usurped. He hasn’t wavered. He did not receive the presidential candidacy even in the previous election, but he supported us anyhow.
“I want to let President Ruto know that in 2027, one of us will go up against him. and I want him to know that we will support Musyoka all the way to the finish and that his attempts to split us up will fail, Raila declared.
