Joseph Irungu alias Jowie, the key suspect in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani, lied to the police that he had been shot, on the night of the murder. The High Court was told on Wednesday, January 26, that Jowie reportedly shot himself in the bedroom of his girlfriend, Jacque Maribe, then told the officers that he had been attacked by men outside the couple’s Nairobi residence.

Chief Inspector Eswari Njoki said Jowie’s neighbour, Catherine Piyon, claimed he got the pistol he used to shoot himself from her husband Bryan Kassaine. The suspect is said to have threatened to harm himself if his co-accused, Maribe, betrayed him after the shooting at Royal Park Estate in Lang’ata, Nairobi.
