Martin Kimani has been praised all over the world following his powerful speech criticising the attempts by Moscow to undermine the sovereignty of Kyiv.
The Kenya’s Permanent Secretary to the United Nations (UN) became a sensation after calling out Vladimir Putin for recognising the Donetsk and Luhansk areas of Ukraine as independent states and which can’t be controlled by Kyiv.
While addressing the UN Security Council meeting on Monday, February 21, Kimani said Kenya was gravely concerned by Russia’s announcement to deploy troops to the aforementioned regions.
He noted that Kenya’s stand on diplomacy to help end the conflict in Ukraine was not considered, adding that the threats by Russia to use force had significantly affected the integrity and political independence of Ukraine.
“We do not deny that there may be serious security concerns in these regions. But they cannot justify the recognition of Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states. Not when there were multiple diplomatic tracks available and underway that had the ability to offer peaceful solutions,” said Kimani.
