Kenya’s medal haul continued to balloon on Saturday afternoon at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham England after Abraham Kibiwott led compatriot Amos Serem in a 1-2 for Kenyan in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase.
Kibiwott claimed Kenya’s third gold at the Commonwealth Games in 8:11.15 as Avinash Sable of India took silver in 8:11.20 while Serem took bronze in 8:16.83, his major title at the senior ranks.
In an event that has seen Kenya relinquish her dominance in the recent future, Kibiwott, defending champion Conseslus Kipruto and Amos Serem were seeking to preserve Kenyan tradition in the race.
The three Kenyans were on course for a podium sweep before Kipruto slowed down letting India’s Avinash Sable in to the mix.
Kipruto who recently clinched bronze at the World Championships in Oregon came home sixth in 8:34.96
