Murkomen lashed out at the president for humiliating his deputy whom he said had spent years supporting him as opposed to ODM leader Raila Odinga who had fought Uhuru since 2002.
Speaking during the burial of nominated Senator Victor Prengei, the vocal Tanga Tanga lawmaker dared Uhuru to mention how the DP had wronged him adding he was ready to atone for that mistake.Senator Mutula Says His Security Was Withdrawn after Raila’s Swearing In, Suspects Ruto’s Case is Dramatised
Stating how Raila had fought the president, Murkomen questioned how Ruto was the one facing hardships while the Opposition leader had never supported the head of state.
“Raila even declared himself president, something that has never happened in any democracy. But he walks scot-free, he did not face any consequences, he sits with the president and even calls himself the people’s president.
“I want to ask Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, besides BBI, what did William Ruto do to you that you treat him horribly and yet he supported you. Tell us that one thing and as the people of Kenya, we will pay for that mistake,” he said.
His sentiments came at the back of the withdrawal of General Service Unit (GSU) officers from Ruto’s security who were replaced with Administration Police officers.
The DP’s spokesperson David Mugonyi said the changes were made without any explanations from security chiefs.Kenyan Newspapers Review for August 27: GSU Officers Guarding Ruto’s Karen Residence Hesitated to Hand Over
Mugonyi said the DP’s office had formally written to the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai seeking an official explanation on the matter and reasons for the “breach of security”.
However, the National Police Service termed the reshuffle as normal reassignment of VVIP security officers manning Ruto’s residences.
“This is a normal reassignment of duties within the National Police Service to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. The Presidential Escort continues to provide close security protection to H.E. William Ruto,” a statement from NPS stated.
