Man, 26, commits suicide in Athi River

26-year-old Robert Kioko committed suicide in Athi River, Machakos County on Saturday.

According to the police, Kioko reportedly took his own life inside his house at Slota slum in Athi River, on Saturday.

The incident was reported to Athi River police station by Makadara assistant chief Martin Ngomo as a suspected suicide incident.

“It was reported from one Martin Ngomo, assistant chief Makadara sublocation that he had received a report that there was a suicide incident at Slota area,” a police report seen by the Star read in part.

“Police rushed to the scene and found the body of one Robert Musila Kioko aged 26 years suspending from the roof top of his single roomed house with a red bed sheet and was kneeling on the floor.”

The single room mabati structure Kioko lived in belongs to his father Kioko Musila, 57.

Police said the deceased had no physical injuries and no suicide note was found at the scene when they picked the body.

“The scene was documented and body moved to Shalom Community Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy,” the report read.

The deceased’s father, a local trader in Athi River town said Robert was the first born out of his four children.

“Kioko wasn’t married. He had no job either but depended on his parents… We worked with him in Kazi Mtaani project,” Ngomo said.

Elsewhere at Kitengela Sub County hospital, a man is nursing serious injuries after he was beaten by a mob for alleged theft at an apartment in Mlolongo town on Saturday.

Police privy to the incident divulged to the Star that Samuel Wambua, 28, a casual labor was found stealing a water pump at Damcall Rental houses before he was pounced on by irate members of the public.

The incident was reported to Mlolongo police station.

“It was reported by one Adriano Karani, a caretaker at Damcall rental houses that one Samuel Kimeu aged 28 years, a casual laborer was found stealing a water pump in the said rentals and had been beaten by members of public,” a police report read in part.

“Police rushed to the scene and rescued the suspect who had multiple injuries all over the body. He has been rushed to Kitengela subcounty hospital where he is admitted in serious condition,” the report said.
