The Amani National Congress (ANC) under the leadership of Musalia Mudavadi has finally made a stand on who to support in the 2022 election between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto.
The party which enjoys influence in the western region of Kenya had been initially associated with the Deputy President.
Reports, however, indicate that the party held its parliamentary group meeting on Wednesday, July 15, where it was decided that they will through their weight behind President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The deputy party leader of ANC Ayub Savula confirmed the reports and further revealed that there shall be no rivalry between the party and allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta as it had been alleged earlier.
“We resolved that no party lawmaker will associate with Deputy President William Ruto and his brigade,” he stated.
Our focus will be to strengthen Mudavadi as the strongest presidential candidate in western to reach out to other communities in his State House journey,” he added.
If the reports are confirmed to be true by the party leader Musalia Mudavadi, the ANC party will be the latest to join in the coalition deal with the Jubilee Party.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is building a coalition that will he will use to endorse and campaign for his successor.
DP Ruto who had a fall out with President Uhuru will now have a hard job to do given the fact that all political bigwigs in the western region have now joined President Uhuru’s coalition team.
It is expected that Ford Kenya under the leadership of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula will also follow ANC and join the coalition.
