Elgeyo- Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen has now shifted blame to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for the endless bandit attacks and killings in Kerio Valley.
According to the lawmaker, the Office of the President and Interior Ministry withdrew National Police Reservists (NPR), leaving the people at the mercy of bandits.
The vocal senator stated they have been trying to curb the menace, but their efforts were cut short by Matiang’i’s action, claiming saying the latest killings happened on Saturday, November 27. Four people lost their lives.
“Last term we had worked so hard to contain the senseless mayhem. Unfortunately the Office of the President and Interior Ministry reversed our efforts by withdrawing NPR and leaving the people at the mercy of bandits,” he said.
Murkomen reiterated that leaders from the area will do everything to hold accountable security officers in charge of the area where the attack happened. “We will do everything to hold those who are currently in charge of our security accountable for every life lost. President Kenyatta, CS Matiangi, IG Mutyambai should do thorough soul searching and intervene if they still have any conscience left in them,” he said.
