The member parties of the One Kenya Alliance have signed a pre-election agreement, now the task being naming the coalition’s presidential candidate.
The coalition brings together the Wiper party stewarded by Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua’s Narc Kenya, Cyrus Jirongo’s UDP, Senator Gideon Moi-led KANU and the Farmers Party under Irungu Nyakera.
The five luminaries met on Friday, March 11, at an unnamed hotel in Nairobi, where the coalition pact was formalised.
The parties will now partner and work as an individual team to rival Azimio la Umoja and the Kenya Kwanza coalitions which have been presumed as the big cheeses in the August 9 presidential vote.
The coalition has resolved to have its candidate on the presidential ballot. Evidently, Kalonzo and the Baringo senator are the coalition’s flagship as far as the presidential race is concerned. Karua and Nyakera have already declared their interests in the Kirinyaga and Murang’a gubernatorial races respectively.
UDP’s Cyrus Jirongo has not stated his political ambitions now five months before the elections.
