Three suspected gangsters in Mathare slums, Nairobi County have been shot and killed, one stolen police firearm recovered. The unidentified suspected robbers are believed to have been behind a series of robberies within the slum.
An officer privy to the matter said that the robbers had snatched the gun they were using from a police officer on October 6, 2020. “They had snatched the firearm from a police officer a month ago when officers were attacked within Mathare,” the officer said.
Locals living near the rental house that was raided by plainclothes officers said that they were woken up by loud gun-shots as police engaged the suspects.
A local, Abel Wanjala, said that he was on Tuesday morning shocked to see people gather around a flat within the slum only to learn that three robbers had been shot and killed.
Rashid Yakubu, the Nairobi County police boss, said that the three have been harassing locals using the firearm.
