Five Makueni ex-MCAs and one sitting MCA were earlier today arraigned in court over the allegations of illegally receiving public funds worth Sh175,000 each for a trip to Dubai in 2014.

The suspects; Timothy Sirei Maneno, Bernard Wambua, Cosmas Mutunga, Bensley Mwania, John Muli and Bernard Muthoka spent the night in custody prior to their arraignment today.

According to a statement issued by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the MCAs acquired the funds in full per diem for a trip which had been privately sponsored. “The private Dubai trip, which was fully sponsored by the then MP, Hon. Dr. Patrick Musimba, was undertaken from 14/04/2014 to 21/04/2014. Upon return, the MCAs fraudulently claimed and received Kshs. 175,018.50 each as per diem which they were not entitled to,” said EACC.

The six were however freed on a cash bail of Sh150,000 each after pleading not guilty before the court of law.
