Suspected Al-Shabaab Militants Hijack a Vehicle with Civilian Occupants in Garissa


Yesterday 13th, July, 2020, around 10:00Am suspected Al-Shabaab militants car jacked a Toyota land cruiser KBF 510H with three civilian occupants at Diiso area located in Fafi Sub County, Garissa County. According to sources, the vehicle was to deliver fuel to the tractors clearing the Diiso – Harbole marram road when they were intercepted near Degarsegal dam by an unknown number of suspected armed Al-Shabaab militia who abducted them. The occupants were all Kenyan Somalis including the contractor Mr. Kuno.

Security agencies were immediately activated by Region police commander and dispatched to the area of incident with support from KDF aircraft which offered aerial support .The carjackers on noticing KDF Aircraft abandoned the motor vehicle and disappeared to the thickets with motor vehicle keys leaving the three occupants stranded at the scene. GSU officers were later dispatched to the scene of incident and successfully recovered the motor vehicle and towed it to GSU Fafi camp.

Two of the occupants are currently at Garissa ATPU office and have been identified as Abdi Osman Hassan-Contractor, Abdihakim Jelle-Son of sub-contractor and driver of the said motor vehicle. The third victim has been identified as Jelle Malim who is the sub-contractor. He has been accounted for but he is yet to reach ATPU office.  Victims’ statements and testimonials were recorded at the ATPU offices in Garissa. Security agencies are still on the ground pursuing the militants.
