A man and his mistress are in custody after they were arrested over the murder of a female soldier in Utawala, Nairobi.
The deceased soldier, identified as Phoebe Kaele, had travelled from Garissa where she is based to visit her boyfriend, John Gitau, who is based at Embakasi Garrison in Nairobi.
She arrived at her boyfriend’s house on Sunday unannounced and found him with another lady, leading to a quarrel.
Apparently, her boyfriend lives in a rented apartment outside the military camp.
Gitau’s mistress was hiding when Phoebe arrived but her shoes were at the door.
A fight ensued when Phoebe demanded to know the owner of the shoes that were at the door.
Gitau is said to have picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Phoebe in the neck, killing her on the spot.
He then tried to clean the pool of blood with the help of his mistress and hid the blood-soaked clothes in the bathroom.
After the tragic incident, Gitau called one of his colleagues and broke the sad news to him.
The colleague then called the police, who rushed to Gitau’s apartment and found Phoebe’s body on the sofa set.
Cops also recovered the killer knife and a bucket with blood-soaked clothes from the bathroom.
Gitau and his mistress were arrested over the said murder as the body was moved to the mortuary.
