Earlier yesterday, reports stated that a man by the name Khalif Abdinoor Mohamed walked in the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit in Mandera and surrendered himself after claiming to be an Al- Shabaab terrorist.
He is said to have escaped the militia group on 30th August then approached the OCPD of Burahale Police Station who aided his movement to Mandera County. Khalif Mohamed handed over an AK 47, three magazines and 92 bullets in order to gain the trust of the detectives.
When interrogated, Mohamed disclosed that he had joined the group in 2013 and was actively involved in several operations since then; like the bombing of Safaricom masts in Khorof Harar and the El adde attack that occurred in 2016 causing the death of several KDF soldiers.
His nine months training took place in Saakow at the Saretha Kulmiye Training school where he was taught how to carry out recce operations and to conduct assassinations.
Khalif Mohamed revealed very vital information of the militia group including their tactics, mode of communication and plans of their next attack.
He is to be transported to Nairobi for more interrogation and hopefully, the information he shares will be used by security agencies to counter the Al Shabaab terrorists.
