Thief steals Police handcuffs

John Ombima before Industrial court senior principal magistrate has pleaded guilty of illegally possessing a pair of handcuffs that had been stolen from the police service

The charge sheet read that the accused committed the offence on May 20 in Southlands slums in Lang’ata within Nairobi County. In response to the charges, the accused told the court he was a garbage collector. He also told the court that some of the residents within the locality depend on him to wash their clothes in exchange for some cash.

“I wash clothes and I frequently collect garbage at night to feed my family. I just picked the handcuffs from garbage. I also cook food in local hotels,” he told the court.

Court prosecutor Allan Mogere said the accused was arrested by the officers from Lang’ata who were on their normal patrol after a tip-off from members of the public that there was someone with a pair of handcuffs.
