Three officers have been arrested and a manhunt launched after three suspects escaped from custody at the Kilgoris Police Station on Saturday morning.

In a police report seen by Citizen Digital, the suspects; Shadrack Leparan, Enock Ndege and Patrick Mausa, escaped through a hole they created after removing bricks from the wall of their cell.

They are then said to have fled towards Kilgoris township.

Leparan (29) was in custody for suspected murder while Ndege (28) was in jail for stealing.

According to the report, the three were among five suspects being held in the cell; the other two denied any knowledge of the escape upon questioning.

The night duty duty officer, Corporal Carlmax Okello, also said he did not hear the suspects escaping.

He has since been placed in police custody alongside two other officers; corporals Jalus Okoa and Andrew Bett.

They’re expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.
