
A senior Ugandan government official has been shot in a suspected assassination attempt.
General Edward Katumba Wamala was shot in the morning of Tuesday, June 1, at Kisota road, Kisaasi. Accordingly to eyewitnesses, two armed assailants trailed the official’s vehicle before opening fire. The Daily Monitor reported that Gen Katumba was seen walking after the shooting, but his clothes were stained in blood.
The officer was reportedly travelling with his daughter, Brenda Kamala, who died in the incident alongside his driver. The incident was confirmed by Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire who, however, divulge more details on the same.
Katumba was rushed to Malcom Clinic for first aid before he was taken to Nakasero Hospital for further treatment. According to the Nile Post, the 64-year-old had bullet wounds in his left arm and chest. He was reportedly travelling to a funeral of a close family member before the tragic incident occurred. Two minutes before his car was shot at, the general had wished Ugandans a happy month on his Twitter page.
